What exactly is effective listening anyways? I've always read that effective listening is critical for people at any level in any organization, be it public / private / not-for-profit, or for that matter, in personal life as well, but in my opinion, there is only one part of effective listening that actually makes it challenging and worth something to develop, and that's the willingness to give up control of a conversation. Like i mentioned in my previous post, hold a totem and prevent the urge to interrupt.
I'm sure some of you have been in situations when you've been asked to speak up, but for others, giving up control will be hard. Dominating conversations and giving yourself the satisfaction that you're making a difference is definitely hard to give up, but take it from me, its worth it.
